Milky Pine or Milkwood,
Alstonia
spp.
-
Milkwoods are
generally tall trees, and have milky latex when the bark on the trunk is cut
into; thus the common names.
-
This latex is
poisonous and may cause blindness (Brock 1997). Of course, it is not a pine,
but often grows straight and tall like one.
-
They have
small white flowers and then long thin seed pods with fluffy seeds.
-
They are
found in the forests and woodlands of the tropics of Australia, with some
species reaching into New Guinea and South-east Asia (Cooper and Cooper 1994).
